Batik Day (Hari Batik Nasional) is an Indonesian holiday for celebrating batik, the traditional cloth of Indonesia. It is celebrated on October 2, as the anniversary of when UNESCO recognized batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2009.

Aficionados of giant vegetables and bonsai trees are in for a real treat this weekend as Belfast’s annual Autumn Fair returns. Held in Botanic Gardens from 12.30 to 6pm on both Saturday and Sunday, the 2-day event showcases prize-winning local produce, from flowers and vegetables to jam and honey.

The town of Bushmills, County Antrim, boasts the oldest licenced whiskey distillery in Ireland, and maybe the world. It is here that the world famous Bushmills Irish Whiskey is produced. Visitors can take a tour of the distillery and sample the whiskey for themselves.

The sun was shining today as tens of thousands of people came to Botanic Gardens to enjoy the Belfast Mela. Now in its 10th year, the multicultural festival was bigger and more colourful than ever, with singing, dancing and food from around the world.
